DEVRIES HOUSE

On an elevated site overlooking the Hokianga Harbour this family home presented difficult design challenges. The view is to the due west and the access to the site is from the north. In addition there were geotechnical issues to be dealt with, the site having relatively little bearing capacity.
The project utilises passive solar design principles. Sliding shutters are employed on the western side to control the afternoon sun while allowing the house to open up to the view during the morning.
