WHANGAREI
CLAPHAMS
CLOCK MUSEUM
This new museum building located in the Whangarei Town Basin provides a dedicated display and management space for the iconic clock collection of Archibald Clapham. The curved façade of the building is comprised of concrete panelling that facets around the open courtyard area, following the path of the shadow from the gnomon of the large central garden sundial. The museum was constructed in 1995 with a contemporary curved design aesthetic providing a visually unique identity for the museum, and a departure from the stylised colonial building typology of the surrounding town basin area.
