WHANGAREI
HEADS School
The project involved the replacement of the school’s ageing, no-longer–fit-for-purpose pool changing facilities. Careful coordination of asbestos removal cleared the way for a safe and future-proofed redevelopment. The new building provides fully accessible toilets and showers designed to support all students, while durable, low-maintenance materials ensure longevity in the coastal environment.
The reconfigured layout brings together the new changing rooms, secure pool storage, and a dedicated pump house to create an efficient and well-organised pool zone. Adjacent to this, a caretaker’s area offers improved storage and a functional dual use workshop, supporting the day-to-day running of the school. Together, the new facilities enhance safety and usability for the school community while strengthening the long-term resilience of this important outdoor learning space.
